The San Juan Basin, located in the northwestern corner of New Mexico and extending into southwestern Colorado, includes several counties where significant oil and gas production has occurred over the past five years. The top-producing counties in this basin are San Juan and Rio Arriba in New Mexico, along with La Plata and Archuleta in Colorado. In 2019, the San Juan Basin produced 143,5 million cubic feet of natural gas; by 2020, this figure had dropped to 131,5 million cubic feet. At the start of 2023, daily production was 375,000 BOE per day and reached 362,000 BOE per day in November 2023.
