(GTS) Golden Triangle Expansion Project Docket No. CP11-531-000 375.308(x) Environmental Information Request No. 1 Resource Report 6 1. Section 6.4.1 discusses unreported wells and states that it is known generally that the potential is low for unreported wells to have drilled through the cap rock. Are there any old, abandoned wells known to have penetrated the salt dome cap rock in the areas of Caverns 3 and 4? GTS Response to Environmental Information Request No. 1 Resource Report 6: In GTS July 10, 2007 submittal to the Railroad Commission of Texas (TRRC) of its Application to Create, Operate, and Maintain an Underground Hydrocarbon Facility at AGL Resources Golden Triangle Storage, Spindletop Salt Dome, Jefferson County, in research from public records and documents, several hundred wells were identified within the AOR (Area of Review). Only one well was identified as having been drilled into the salt. This well, drilled by Sun Oil in 1952, had penetrated the salt approximately 20 feet. The well is outside the tract leased by GTS, approximately 900 feet southeast of Cavern 3 and 1800 feet south of Cavern 4. In GTS design investigations for proposed Caverns 3 and 4, no additional abandoned and plugged wells were located, including during the excavation of contaminated soils in 2008 (See Response to Environmental Information Request No. 5 Resource Report 6). If abandoned wells are encountered during the development of proposed Caverns 3 and 4, GTS will implement those procedures presented in Section 6.4.1 of Resource Report 6. Similar procedures were implemented during the construction of the original GTS Project, and several unknown abandoned wells were discovered during construction and properly plugged and abandoned in coordination with TRRC (abandoned oil and gas wells) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (abandoned sulfur wells).
