Williams’ $5.34B Power Deal, Gas Infrastructure Behind the AI Load Boom

Williams’ $5.34 billion Power Innovation deal points to a larger infrastructure story: large-load power planning is moving closer to natural gas supply, onsite generation, and data center demand.

Williams announced an agreement led by Blackstone, with Apollo and KKR-managed vehicles, to support five announced behind-the-meter Power Innovation projects: Socrates, Apollo, Aquila, Socrates the Younger, and Neo. The investment gives the Blackstone-led group a 49% noncontrolling equity interest, while Williams retains 51% ownership and commercial and operational control. The deal includes $4.4 billion toward expected behind-the-meter growth capital and approximately $0.9 billion of additional consideration. Williams also said its broader Power Innovation backlog exceeds 6 GW, with more than 2.6 GW of announced projects.
