Why Amplify Energy Is Selling Oklahoma and East Texas, Focus on California Offshore

Amplify Energy continues to streamline its U.S. footprint, exiting Oklahoma and East Texas to concentrate on oil-weighted assets in Wyoming and offshore California. The company’s recent sales reflect a sharp focus on higher-margin, infrastructure-backed operations.

In November 2025, Amplify announced the $92.5 million sale of its Oklahoma assets spanning Woods, Alfalfa, and Major counties within the Mississippian Lime play. The divestment follows two East Texas transactions totaling $127.5 million and a $23 million non-operated Eagle Ford sale earlier in the year.

The company plans to direct proceeds toward its Beta offshore platforms near Los Angeles and the Bairoil field in Wyoming, both viewed as long-term cash-generating assets.

Why It Matters

Amplify’s multi-asset realignment underscores a broader post-pandemic strategy among independents—prioritizing cash flow stability and operational control over production scale.

  • Targeted divestments – Exit from higher-maintenance, lower-margin gas assets in Oklahoma and East Texas.

  • Portfolio consolidation – Shift toward oil-heavy, infrastructure-integrated assets.

  • Capital redeployment – Sale proceeds aimed at boosting core production at Beta and Bairoil fields.

What the Map Shows

In Rextag Energy DataLink, the composite map illustrates Amplify’s geographic transition through three key regions:

1. Oklahoma Exit – Mississippian Lime Divestment

  • ~95,000 net acres (Woods, Alfalfa, Major counties)

  • ~4,400 boe/d (46% liquids)

  • Includes saltwater disposal infrastructure

  • Sold for $92.5M in Q4 2025

2. East Texas Divestment – Haynesville and Cotton Valley

  • Harrison County acreage marked within Haynesville and Cotton Valley trends

  • Two asset packages sold for $127.5M

  • Part of a broader exit from East Texas and Eagle Ford non-op positions

3. Core Asset – Beta Field Offshore California

  • 3 offshore platforms + 17.5-mi pipeline to Long Beach

  • ~3,900 boe/d (100% oil)

  • 100% working interest

  • Key focus area alongside Wyoming’s Bairoil field

A Deeper Dive with DataLink

  • Filter Acreages to compare sold vs. retained regions across Oklahoma, Texas, and California.

  • Overlay Infrastructure Layers to view how Amplify’s portfolio now centers on operated platforms and connected oil transport systems.

  • Analyze Well and Production Attributes to visualize the company’s evolving balance between oil and gas outputs.

By mapping these transitions, users can clearly see Amplify’s transformation—from a multi-basin operator to a more focused oil producer anchored in Wyoming and California.
